A unique maritime city, S\u00e8te is located in the H\u00e9rault department in the Occitanie region. It was founded on July 29, 1666, at the instigation of Louis XIV, who wanted to link the Canal du Midi to the Mediterranean.
Despite this, the commercial port<\/strong> didn’t really take off until 1820, with increasing traffic in wine, sulfur, wood, grain and iron.
